For over forty years Chris Kennedy has been working in the entertainment industry, firstly as
an entertainment agent then, from 1987, in professional audio.In 1993 he founded Norwest
Productions (now N W Group) as a specialist audio provider. Today it is a full service audio visual company with offices in every Australian
capital city as well as Auckland and Wellington (New Zealand). Employing over 200 people, it
provides production services for corporate events, musical theatre, television, concerts,
festivals and special events. It is best known internationally as the provider of the audio
solutions for four of the five Olympic opening and closing ceremonies this millennium, from
Sydney 2000 to the recently completed Rio 2016. N W Group has done over thirty-five major
events including multiple Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Pacific Games, S E Asian
Games and more.
In 2014 Chris Kennedy took a step back from day to day activities of the company. He
remains the largest shareholder who is a human being (behind PE fund, The Growth Fund)
and is a non-executive director. However, he continued to be active working on special
projects such as Rio 2016 and the bids for Commonwealth Games 2018.
In 2016 he returned to executive duties at NW Group and founded a very successful marine
AV division servicing the cruise ship industry. In early 2020 this business was transferred to
Norwest Marine AV Pty Ltd which is wholly owned by Chris Kennedy and his family. The
vast majority of his time is devoted to this business.
He is managing director and 100% shareholder of F8 Broadcast & Recording which provides
mobile broadcast audio and recording trucks to the television industry in Australia and Asia,
and NM Live, a provider of high level audio services based in Sydney.
